KA237 Contract

designed in 1966 by Aleksander Kuczma
industrially produced for the first time since 2022

Designed for the Central Furniture Development Centre in Poznan, this piece of furniture never got beyond the prototype stage.

The only complete version of KA237 is held by the National Museum in Warsaw. It can be found at the permanent exhibition entitled ‚Gallery of Polish Design’. The chair has a seat made of polyester-glass laminate and a characteristic frame made of conical metal tubes.

The chair is a manifestation of the pioneering attempts of the Polish furniture industry to construct a chair out of plastic. The idea was to obtain a seat that would encourage people to adopt a correct sitting position. Many prototypes were created, and ultimately one was chosen. The corresponding shell passed strength tests, far exceeding the norms for this type of furniture.

FRAME:
Powder coated steel, matte black or chromed with anti-slip ends
